Barbara Bush's medical doctor, Dr. Manny Alvarez, stated just a few days ago that Barbara was focusing on only 'comfort care' after a number of recent hospitalizations. Having complications of congenital heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the 92 year old former first lady grew weary of treatment. The fiercely loyal wife to her husband, former president George Herbert Bush, she was an admired public figure and charitable donor.

In her last days, she chose to be surrounded by many loving family members in the time of her failing health. She is survived by five children, 14 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Prayer for Family and Friends of Barbara Bush

Father, in the name of Jesus, we praise you to come upon the family and friends of Barbara Bush and give them comfort in her passing. Have them reach out to your tangible love and peace from your presence. Lift and console them in your Spirit. For your glory, the blind can see, the deaf can hear, the dumb can speak, the lame can walk, and lepers are healed. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, your children live eternally when the flesh has passed. We praise and worship you, in the name of Jesus, for your glory, love, mercy, grace, and eternal life. We humbly thank you in advance to bring the family and friends of Barbara closer together than ever in their relationship with Jesus, for all to be re-united in the spectacular glory of Heaven. Amen.

Brief Bio of Barbara Bush

Former First Lady Barbara Bush was having an intense discussion with her husband George Bush and her son George W., back when the elder George was still the president of the United States. George W. was adamant that salvation cannot be obtained by any others means except through the acceptance of Jesus and the repentance of sins.

Barbara Bush stated that certainly God with his mercy and grace would have a plan for the followers of other religions. Eventually, Mrs. Bush said to someone, "Get me Billy Graham."

The White House operators quickly got Mr. Graham on the phone. Barbara Bush told him about her discussion with her husband and son. Billy Graham stated that as a believer in Jesus and the New Testament, he had to agree with her son that the only way to Heaven is through personal faith in the Lord Jesus. Barbara and the Bush family later stated that on a number of occasions, Billy Graham was a catalyst in changing their lives in varying ways including regarding their relationship with Jesus.

1st Epistle of Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men; the man Christ Jesus.

Barbara Bush had been involved in many charitable endeavors, including the Heifer International Housing Works and the Susan Komen for the Cure. The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy was established by Barbara, which is now the nation's leading advocate for family literacy. The charity's doctrine includes that family literacy is key to solving today's most difficult social and economic situations, global competitiveness, and quality of life.

The no-nonsense Texas matriarch told people 'the way it is,' but with graciousness and style. After meeting when she was 16 at a holiday party from a break in boarding school, she became engaged to George a year later. Thereafter, she stood by her husband for 73 years of marriage. Barbara was devoted to George's ambitions for a career in public service, beginning and then steadfast a political confidant while George was campaigning for congress in the 1960's. In later years, Barbara was seen with her husband regularly attending St. Martin's Episcopal Church of Houston. Born on June 8th, 1925, she grew up in Rye, New York, and will be missed deeply by loved ones and friends.

We ask for your continued prayers for Barbara's family.
