A sin is a sin, in the regard that any sin is against Holy law, and without repentance it puts someone into hell. God is Holy and Holiness cannot co-exist with sin.
God has a plan for everyone's lives. God has emotions, and some sins are more detestable to God than others. Throughout Scripture, there are countless examples in which God is grieved by His children who are perpetually disobedient by forsaking prayer to do His will.
A trick of the devil is to try to subtly seduce and oppress the progression of growth and maturity in even an obedient Christian. A child of God who is disobedient, though, is completely susceptible to being spiritually open to the devil. Someone might think that they have everything that they need in life; friends, family, a home, a good income, church, hobbies, etc., But, these things can be all compromised and or infiltrated by the devil due to disobedience.
A disobedient child of God could very easily be at wrong places and at wrong times. This includes attending a different church than God wants them to attend, or just in general hurting God's plans and the specific service that God needs someone to do. This includes God's plans for His children's salvation.
A sin is a sin, and sin needs to be repented. But, the circumstances that can happen around each sin can vary along with the reactions from God. There are multitudes of Bible stories that show the catastrophe that eventually can happen to someone who simply won't repent.
Psalm 78:49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger; wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
