The devil wants to rattle people through many means including by producing situations that are developed through his spirits directly, his spirits coming through others such as loved ones or friends, or enhancing general life situations. His goal is to have dominion and power over someone through any avenue that he can.
God wants someone to show that they've put everything into His hands, confident that all of this world will pass and that God is Almighty and He will take care of evil in His time.
Allowing God to take care of evil is for God's glory, and this includes for the purpose that there is a bigger picture happening than just ourselves. If someone is only looking at themselves when they are dealing with the trials and pains of this world, they can become overwhelmed.
Scripture teaches not to allow the devil to see you get rattled including through other people and their antics. More importantly, when evil spirits are working through others including through loved ones and friends, let these people as well see that as a child of God, you are not the type of person to get rattled.
When someone allows themselves to have a reaction to evil, this empowers evil. Evil can come at someone all that it wants, but the person simply not having any type of reaction to evil including an emotional reaction, has claimed victory. Thereafter, calmly observing and seeking 'in thought,' the understanding of the wisdom behind an evil action - creates peace in that situation.
The reasoning behind the ability to obtain God's peace in any situation when someone has an understanding of the wisdom behind any situation - is that they are then within the Spirit and Word of God.
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom, and with all thy getting get understanding.
Proverbs 15:14 The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge: but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
