In the first book of Samuel, God tells us about the pain that Hannah endured because she was unable to have children. She was also cruelly mocked because of this hardship. Hannah prayed fervently and with all of her heart to God for years, yearning and craving to have a child. She made a vow to God that if He gave her a son, that she would devote that child to God.Hannah confided her strong desires to Eli the Priest, and he prayed to God for her request and told her that the prayers would be answered. Hannah had absolute faith in Eli's message of prophesy from the Lord, and her disposition changed to that of joy. Shortly thereafter, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son who she named Samuel, and Hannah was filled with delight and praise for God!
Hannah's grateful heart prayed a prayer of thanksgiving and she kept her vow to God, offering to return the love that she had received from God back to Him. She was true to her word, and after Samuel was weaned, she took him to Eli to be schooled full time to become a servant of God. Each year, Hannah took delight in making a special robe as a gift for Samuel's benefit in serving God, and she loved Samuel with all of her heart.
1st Samuel 1:27-28 For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshiped the Lord there.
1st Samuel 2:1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoices in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord; my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
At the time of Samuel's training to serve God, Eli's sons were willfully sinning without repentance, and their spirits emanated evil around Samuel. However, due to Samuel having a mother who influenced him at an early age by radiating the Spirit of God's love, and Samuel having intercessions from the Holy Spirit of God, Samuel was given strength and discernment, choosing to rebuke evil and embrace goodness. Samuel grew in his studies, faith, courage, and closeness to God. Samuel's 'free will' used wisdom from God's Spirit into His spirit, to grow in conducting the will of God. Samuel therefore became open and qualified to receive prophesies starting at an early age, including an important message for the future of Eli and Israel.
Samuel was becoming known throughout the land as a great prophet and judge for God and Israel. He anointed King Saul and King David, the first and second kings of Israel. Samuel continually facilitated in the development of both kings for the sake of God's glory, having immensity of impact on the lives of many people during that time period.
Hannah has become a great timeless standard as an example for a parent. It would be hard-pressed for a parent to have a child remember them any greater than having had lived a life of love and sacrifice for their child's greater good and for the glory of God. Hannah was rich in love to God and to her child, worshiping, obedient, having immensity of gratitude and love for God.
Hannah's endearing selfless love gave legal spiritual permission for her to be open to receive blessings that were far greater than she had ever asked for. This included her growing closeness to God, watching the incredible closeness that Samuel had within the Spirit of God, his immensity of works, and God blessing Hannah with five more children. Hannah's beautiful and inspiring heart was used as a key instrument of God to facilitate the fulfillment of Kind's David's purposes and the generations to come for the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ, giving hope and salvation forever.
1st Samuel 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
Matthew 1:1 The book of the generations of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Matthew 21:9 The multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!
"Father, in the name of Jesus, I surrender my day and my life to you. I repent my sins. Please forgive me. I confess that Jesus is the Son of God and my Savior, rising from the dead. I surrender all aspects of myself and my life to you. Lord, guide me to do your will, to go wherever you want me to go and to do whatever you want me to do for the glory of your eternal Kingdom. I humbly ask you to give me blessings beyond my imagination so that I can use them to give back to you and your children. Amen."
